Those of you who are entering into the perimenopausal or menopausal years are wondering what are some steps in your control that you can take to combat the discomfort you may be suffering from. What steps can you take to lessen the chances that you are experiencing side effects and symptoms related to menopause? I was in your shoes, and I will say…..I wish I had someone like me giving you a peak into each stage and helping guide you through it. I would have paid my weight in gold to have someone just to take my hand and show me the way! Have no FEAR! I am HERE for you! Let’s take a look at a few things that are in your control during this time and while you may be researching other treatment/hormonal options:
Mood Swings
The first area that the keto diet can help is with mood swings. When your mood is deregulated in menopause, often it is due to hormonal shifts. However, fluctuating glucose levels can also be a culprit. By keeping your blood sugar stable using the keto diet, you can avoid this problem.
Energy Levels
Energy levels are also something that many women struggle with during menopause. I sure did! This is another area that fortunately can be assisted by using the keto diet.
Because you are keeping blood sugar stable and dietary fat releases energy slowly over a long time, you’ll maintain an even keel throughout the day. While you may never have as much absolute energy as you would on a higher carb diet plan, you’ll avoid those lows that are so hard for so many to overcome.
Bodyweight Control
Finally, it’s no secret that many women do start to gain extra body weight when they hit menopause. Fortunately, the keto diet can provide great protection against this because it does help to control hunger so well. It also makes it easier for the body to tap into stored body fat (provided the right calorie intake is in place), this will go a long way towards helping you avoid that unwanted weight from creeping on.
If you’re in perimenopause or menopause, it’s a great idea to start considering the keto diet plan as a means of helping you deal with this unstable, out of balance time in your life. For me, the keto diet has also helped me take off the unwanted flab and cellulite left over from times when I couldn’t be as active (during tennis injuries X 3 in a row where I could not maintain any regular exercise for weeks at a time). When I was experiencing decreased energy, great fatigue and no endurance with my tennis, the keto diet helped me regain my amazing energy level needed for competition, helped me regain muscle mass I had lost and gave me more mental clarity that I was longing for. The weight loss was an added benefit as well.
